Be‘Cause’ Of You!

It was wonderful receiving your numerous responses to last week’s editorial – ‘A Cause Bigger Than Yourself’ – which encouraged you to participate in a cause and make a bigger, collective difference. It was heartening to see so many of our community members expressing not just willingness, but a desire to volunteer their time and effort to causes devoted to making a positive difference in other lives. Many were seeking information regarding ongoing causes that they could attach themselves to, and make that much-needed difference.
A famous quote by the Father of our nation, Gandhiji, reads, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” Furthering this sentiment with the aim of providing direction to our readers’ cause-related queries, it truly gives me great pleasure in informing you that Parsi Times is working towards developing a common platform to facilitate two-way information on the availability of both – Causes and Volunteers. I sincerely request all of you to kindly mail me directly (anahita@parsi-times.com) with information about both – Causes that need volunteers; and names of Volunteers wishing to invest their time and effort in causes, along with details like email address, age, amount/frequency of time you can invest in a Cause.
Continuing on this sweet note of meaningful gestures, let us shower well-deserved praise and gratitude on two other compassionate expressions… first – the leading philanthropic organisation, World Zoroastrian Organisation (WZO) Trusts, for getting together with the NCPA and the kind folks from the famous play, ‘Laughter In The House – 2’, and providing four hundred tickets gratis for those in our community who wish to partake of this delightful live-entertainment but are unable to afford it. And second – the BPP Trustees, for showing sensitivity and compassion, and treating with dignity all the beneficiaries who were unable to afford the rise in Service Charges, by providing them with not just subsidies but also complete waivers, as per their economic abilities.
Other news that has us smiling, is the thunderous win of our Women In Blue – the Indian Women’s Cricket Team, which literally stormed into the ICC Women’s World Cup Finals, thanks to 28-year-old Harmanpreet Kaur’s massive unbeaten 171 against the Ozzies. This makes her the second highest Indian scorer in Women’s ODIs – with teammate Deepti Sharma topping the list with 188 runs! No silly maidens, these! Here’s wishing our Women In Blue the very best in the Finals on 23rd July. How times have changed! Women are now increasingly looked upon to not just bring home the bread, but even, hopefully, the Cup!
India elected a new, fourteenth President in Ram Nath Kovind this week.
