K11 Fitness Funda – ‘Shoulders Of Giants’

The shoulder complex is the most mobile part in the body. Muscles working shoulder to shoulder are your Deltoids and Rotator Cuff muscles. Shoulders plays a critical role in standing and seated postures. That your friend has much stress and thinks he is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders is seen in his slumped position. Conversely, squaring your shoulders can change your emotions and assist in making a positive impression.

The Deltoids and Rotator Cuff muscles help manoeuvre through the hustle and bustle of daily life. They are used in almost every activity. Be it lifting something heavy from the top shelf of your cupboard or pushing that carry-on into the overhead luggage bin, your shoulders put themselves to the wheel every day. Shoulders are endowed with the ability to rotate like a windmill; all of 360 degrees. Such a gift of mobility comes with the likelihood of injuring the tiny muscles and tendons that comprise the shoulder capsule.

Poor posture, given by weak and stiff muscles is one of the most common cause of tense and painful shoulders. Stress and other lifestyle factors, such as driving or sitting for long hours hunched over in front of your computer are significant contributors. The shoulders go through wear and tear and can develop trigger points, tendonitis, bursitis, sprains and dislocations. Strengthening and stretching exercises can make shoulder muscles co-ordinated and conditioned to handle stress.

The Deltoids are a 3 dimensional complex with the front, rear and side, performing different functions. A sound approach to training is to work these muscles with exercises like the Overhead Press, Prone High Rows and Lateral Raises. To be a picture of health these muscles need equal development, suppleness and coordination of the smaller stabilizing muscles.

Tower head and shoulders above the rest by having a certified trainer plan your schedule and teach you the technique of exercises and stretches.
