Russia Starts FIFA With A Win

The FIFA World Cup 2018 kicked off on 14th June 2018 as hosts Russia faced opponents Saudi Arabia in front of a packed Moscow stadium, with President Vladimir Putin declaring the tournament open. Yuri Gazinsky scored the opening goal of the tournament during the 12th minute. In the 43rd minute, Denis Cheryshev doubled the lead. In the 71st minute substitute Artem Dzyuba took advantage of a loose Saudi Arabia defence and headed a goal to the right corner making it 3-0 for the hosts. Denis Cheryshev yet again struck, as he smashed the ball with his left foot from the edge of Saudi Arabia’s penalty area. And finally Aleksandr Golovin scored a goal over a free kick getting Russia to win by a 5-0 margin against Saudi Arabia.

 

India Lift Intercontinental Cup

Indian skipper Sunil Chhetri’s magnificent brace during the eighth and 29th minute of the final contest helped India thrash Kenya 2-0 to thus clinch the Intercontinental Cup at the Mumbai Football Arena. With two other goals added by Chhetri, he equals Argentina’s Lionel Messi’s tally of 64 international goals and is now currently in the joint-second active international goal scorer behind Cristiano Ronaldo’s 81 goals.

Rafa Wins French Open

Rafael Nadal won his 11th French Open title defeating Austria’s Dominic Thiem 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 during the final. The Spanish legend now has 17 Grand Slam titles to his credit, and is just three behind Roger Federer.

    Golden State Warriors Win NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors won their third NBA title in four seasons beating Cleveland Cavaliers 108-85, with a comprehensive 4-0 series victory.
