Winning the toss, South Africa elected to bat first. Farhaan Behardien stood out due to his fighting knock of 62 runs in 82 deliveries. South Africa finished with 189/9 in 50 overs. In reply the Aussies did not get off to a good start and at one stage they were 90/8. Aaron Finch top scored with 72 runs. The Australians could never recover from there on, handing South Africa a win by 47 runs.

India’s star badminton players Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth played exceptionally well in the Australian Open men’s and women’s singles. Saina beat Malaysia’s Jin Wei Goh 21-12, 21-14 while on the other hand Srikanth won against his Indonesian counterpart Sony DwiKuncoro 21-19, 21-12. Both move into the quarter-finals of the Australian Badminton Open Superseries.
