Lawkim Motors Group (LMG) Division of Godrej and Boyce Mfg. Co. Ltd. recently launched a ‘bamboo framed bike’ which will be put to test by two Mumbai based cyclist, Sumeet Paringe (26) and Prisiliya Madan (22), who will travel from Kanyakumari to Khardungla, in an attempt to raise awareness about girl child education in India. The ‘dual objective initiative’ intends to test the sturdiness and toughness of the bikes, while hoping to raise Rs. 50 lakhs to support the education of 1,500 girls.
This unique bike is originally the brain child of bike designer, Craig Calfee from Antartica. However, Vijay Crishna, Executive Director, LMG Division of Godrej and Boyce, was inspired by the strength, agility and design of this bike, on a trip to Antartica and invited Calfee to replicate a similar sustainable product with his special Lawkim’s team in Mumbai. Starting 13th July, 2016, the duo will together take off on their 63-day-long journey on Godrej’s bamboo-framed bicycles, to traverse the length of the country and spread awareness in the most sustainable and ‘green’ way!
Speaking to Parsi Times, Nariman Bacha said, “A helping hand is more powerful than praying lips. Let’s join hands to make a difference to the girl child.” The Expedition Campaign is Live on Crowdfunding platform. To contribute contact: Nariman Bacha on 09820812244.
