Ardesir Dady Street (Girgaum): This famous street was named after a wealthy and highly respected Parsi gentleman and banker, Ardesir Dady Seth (1757-1810). In fact, the then Governor of Bombay, Duncan, got the bell of the Cathedral to be tolled as his funeral passed by, as a mark of honor from the ruling community. He also built Dady Seth’s Agiary at Hornby Road, Fort, and his father Dady Nasserwanji (1735- 1799) built Dady Seth’s Fire Temple in Phanaswadi.
Cruickshank Road (Dhobi Talao to Victoria Terminus): has been named after Colonel J D Cruickshank, of the Bombay Engineers, who retired in 1895. Col. Cruickshank served for a while in Gujarat and in Aden. This road was formerly known to the Indian public as ‘Vachla Rusta,’ (or middle Road) because it was between the Hornby and Esplanade Roads.
