Dr. Cyres Mehta Awarded ‘International Hero of India’ By All India Ophthalmologists Society

India’s leading eye-surgeon, and one of the highest achievers doing our community proud, Dr. Cyres Mehta has been awarded ‘International Hero of India’ By All India Ophthalmologists Society. This is the first time this award has been instituted and has been given to only a very carefully selected twenty eye surgeons out of over 20,000 eye surgeons in India. These surgeons are the shining ambassadors of India and have won international awards for India. It’s a matter of great pride for the community that two Parsi doctors, Dr. Cyres Mehta from Mumbai and Dr. Rushad Shroff from Delhi (son of Dr. Noshir Shroff) were chosen for this prestigious honour.

In front of a packed auditorium comprising eye surgeons from 15 countries at the 75th or platinum jubilee meeting of the All India Ophthalmologists Society, Dr. Cyres Mehta and Dr. Rushad Shroff were conferred the honor of being called ‘The International Hero Of Indian Ophthalmology’, by Prof G N Rao, one of the most famous eye surgeons in the world.
Dr. Cyres Mehta has lectured in over 100 international conferences spanning 20 countries and was the first Indian to be chosen as Editor of the most widely read magazine of eye surgeons in the world, The European Society Of Cataract And Refractive Surgeons. Dr. Cyres was also the first ever Indian to be elected as Scientific Chairman Of The International Society Of Cataract Surgeons, London.

Speaking to Parsi Times about his recent achievement, Dr. Cyres Mehta said, “It feels great to be recognised by my peers. We are ambassadors of our country abroad and it’s our duty to keep the flag flying high!”
