Appeal: THE SAVE RANI BAGH BOTANICAL GARDEN FOUNDATION

Dear Friends,

The Save Rani Bagh Botanical Garden Foundation has set up an online petition, http://www.saveranibagh.org/petitionN.php, to register public opposition to BMC’s shockingly anti-people proposal to increase the entry fee for visiting VJB Udyan, from Rs.5 to Rs.100 per adult and from Rs.2 to Rs.25 per child!

We appeal to you to sign the petition, ‘We oppose BMC’s retrograde proposal of a 20-fold entry fee hike to enter VJB Udyan (Rani Bagh)’, hosted on our website www.saveranibagh.org and to encourage your friends to sign too. Your email ID will be kept confidential and will not be displayed on the petition. This petition will be sent to the Municipal Commissioner.

To read a common protest note signed by representatives of environmental and open space groups, a former Supreme Court Judge and former Chief Secretaries and Municipal Commissioners please see the Link: http://www.saveranibagh.org/openLetterToCM.php

We solicit your support and request you to sign urgently as the proposal is soon to be placed before the Standing Committee and the House.

From,

Trustees of Save Rani Bagh Botanical Garden Foundation:

Hutokshi Rustomfram, Shubhada Nikharge, Sheila Tanna, Hutoxi Arethna, Katie Bagli

The Save Rani Bagh Botanical Garden Foundation is a Mumbai-based registered public charitable trust formed in October 2012 to protect, preserve and promote the 150 year old heritage botanical garden of V.J.B. Udyan, popularly called Rani Bagh. Spread across 53 acres, Mumbai’s largest and most visited public space, Rani Bagh is a verdant haven home to 3,213 trees of 286 species that supports a rich ecosystem. The Save Rani Bagh Botanical Garden Committee (SRBBGC), established in April 2007, has been formed to protect the heritage botanical garden from the forces of so-called redevelopment. In addition to carrying out struggle-oriented activities to ensure that the botanical garden’s space and accessibility remain sacrosanct, the Foundation also conducts educational and awareness raising programmes.
