Nowroze Baug Holds 4th Box Cricket Tourney

On 28th May, 2017, the Nowroze Baug Play Centre organized the ‘4th Annual All Parsi Box Cricket Competition’ at the playground. 32 teams of 6 players each (with one compulsory female player) competed for the trophy. Chief Guest Aditya Tare, who plays for IPL’s Delhi Daredevils and is the record-holder for most dismissals by a wicketkeeper as well as Captain in the Ranji Trophy (41 in the last season), said, “It’s not common to see such tournaments in other communities. This was a great initiative to encourage young talent to play cricket.”

The champion of this year’s edition was Malcolm Baug ‘A’ and the trophy was donated by Aloo Homi Dubash in memory of her son Sam Homi Dubash. Malcolm Baug ‘A’ were the winners of Pool 1 beating Nowroze Baug ‘A’, and Shavir from the winning team winning the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award. Pool 2 winners were Gamadia Colony ‘A’ who won against CJ ‘C’, with Sunny from Gamadia Colony ‘A’ winning the ‘Player of the Tournament’ title. Taronish Patva (Thane Boyz) won ‘Best Bowler’; Farzan M (Nowroze Baug ‘A’) won ‘Promising Player’ and ‘Youngest Team’ award was given to Hilla Towers ‘B’.

Organizer Firdosh Khambatta thanked sponsors Zoroastrian Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Union Bank, Nariman Sports, Viraf Mehta, WZO Trust Funds and O’cean Water. He also thanked other organizers and volunteers.
