Kudos Parsee Gym Cricketers!

Parsee Gymkhana (PG), one of the top class teams in Mumbai’s Club Cricket arena has produced a great bunch of outstanding talents who have done us proud in this year’s inaugural T20 Mumbai League, held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. Suryakumar Yadav (Captain of the winning team: Triumph Knights), Bravish Shetty (Captain of the runner up team: Shivaji Park Lions), Raunaq Sharma (Shivaji Park Lions), Shivam Malhotra (Mumbai North Panthers), Nikhil Patil (Bandra Blasters) and Aakarshit Gomel (SoBo Super Sonics) have  done Parsee Gym proud!

All players attribute this success to Khodadad Yazdegardi (Vice President and Cricket Secretary of PG), Vinayak Mane and the entire support staff. Speaking to Parsi Times, Suryakumar Yadav, Man of the Match in the final said, “Parsee Gym is the place where I started expressing my cricket and also got to know my responsibilities as a player. Everyone is treated equally, which is most important in any club. For me it was a great opportunity to lead my side in MPL.”

Bravish Shetty shared with us “It is always an honour to represent PG. We are provided with the best of facilities and that helps us nurture our skill sets. Leading the Shivaji Park Lions in T20 Mumbai was a wonderful experience as we gelled well, played as a unit and enjoyed each other’s success.”

Raunaq Sharma told us “In all aspects PG has helped me become a better cricketer. T20 Mumbai was a great platform as it was aired on national television. We have learnt a lot from Vinod Kambli who was the backbone of Shivaji Park Lions. My dream was to someday sing the National Anthem in a stadium before a match and I’m glad it came true in the final.”

Shivam Malhotra added “I am grateful to PG for giving me an opportunity to be a part of their unit. We just look to give our best. After performing well for PG, I got a chance to represent Mumbai. MPL was a big platform for us club cricketers as we gained recognition for all our hard work.”

“Being a part of team PG is the best feeling ever. I always wanted to improve my game in the shorter format and Vinayak Mane’s inputs have helped me a lot. Khodadad Sir too always encourages us to work hard. We have gained a lot, playing with the best in the business during T20 Mumbai. Most importantly I have realised my shortcomings, I will work on them so that I am a better player next season,” said Nikhil Patil.

Aakarshit Gomel concluded by stating “We are given equal opportunities along with great facilities at PG and in turn we always look to perform well and win championships. T20 Mumbai has been great for us in every way. The learning and advice I have received will be very helpful for the future.”

Well done and keep it up boys!

We seem to be focusing on winning instead of focusing on providing a platform for parsi youth to learn and excel in cricket. There are only 11 spots and its surprising that those cannot be filled by our parsi youth. First preference should be given to parsis regardless of how good they are. Its sad that many parsis are not selected and mostly non parsis are being selected. We must revisit the mandate of the club.
