In keeping with the oncoming BPP elections on Sunday, 1st July, 2018, the BPP has shared detailed information and guidelines for candidates, EVM (Electronic Voting Machines) and voters in the form of FAQs or Frequently Asked Questions.

‘FAQs For Candidates’ will cover numerous queries including:

Q: Are the EVM machines tamper proof?
A: Yes, this set of EVMs is non-hackable. There are no receptors or transmitters embedded. So the question of anyone accessing the machine remotely through Wireless does not arise

Q: Will there be Video capture of the Polling Area?
A: Yes, we propose to have a Video Camera at each polling location. The Video Camera will not enter the Polling Booth Area for privacy and secrecy purposes

Q: How will the list of names be listed on the EVMs?
A: The names will be listed in Alphabetical order, based on first names. For easy access and readability, no titles or degrees will be prefixed or suffixed

Q: Who are the independent authorities conducting the Polls?
A: The following external independent authorities will be present at all times at each of the polling precincts:

  • Polling Officers – 3 – appointed by the Election President
  • Technical Officers – 2 – appointed by the Chief Technology Officer
  • Auditor -1 – appointed by the Election Auditor

Voters are requested to strictly follow the rules regarding identification and discourage all exceptions. FAQs For Voters will cover queries including:

Q: What are the dates and time for Voting?
A:
Voting will be held only on one day i.e. on 1 July 2018 between 10 am and 6 pm

Q: Can I go to any venue, irrespective of where my residence is?
A: Yes, you are allowed to vote at any of the above locations at the date and times specified above. A voter who has cast his vote at one location will not be allowed to vote at any other location on that day – his name will be automatically blocked at ALL other locations through a central computerized process

Q: Where are the voting venues?
A:
Voting will be held at the following locations:

  • Cusrow Baug Pavilion
  • Khareghat Colony
  • Rustom Baug Pavilion
  • J B Vachha School, Dadar
  • Bharucha Baug, Andheri, Recreation Centre

Q: Is the entire polling process audited?
A:
Yes, the polling process, including the technical systems associated with it, will be audited by a reputed firm of Chartered Accountants

 Q: What precautions do I need to take at the Polling Booth?

  • When you enter the booth, please ensure that all the LEDs are switched off. If you see any of them on, please inform the attendant / Polling Officer immediately, to initiate the EVM machine
  • After you finish voting, please inform the attendant that you have finished and ask him to re-initiate the EVM machine and ensure that all the LEDs are off, when you leave the booth
  • Please follow discipline at all times
  • Please follow all the rules as laid out for the election, at all times
  • Please do not carry any brochures / leaflets inside the booth
  • Please ensure that you do not leave behind anything inside the booth

‘FAQs For EVM’ will cover numerous queries including:

Q: How many EVMs are you going to deploy at each location?
A: There will be 10 EVMs at each location – 9 for General Voters and 1 for Donors

Q: Can someone see who I have voted for?
A: NO. There will be an enclosure around the panel when you vote. YOUR VOTE IS FULLY CONFIDENTIAL – NOBODY – NOT EVEN THE EVM OPERATOR OR POLLING OFFICER OR IT STAFF OR AUDITOR – HAS ACCESS TO WHO YOU HAVE VOTED FOR. VOTE WITHOUT FEAR OR FAVOUR PLEASE.

Q: What will be the layout of the EVM panel?
A:
The panel will have the candidate no., his name in English and Gujarati and his postage stamp size picture alongside each button.

Q: Is there any confirmation of the machine having accepted each of my votes?
A: Yes, each time you press a button, the machine will beep and also a small LED will light up against the name which you have voted for, as a confirmation

Q: Can I cancel / reverse / undo my selection?
A:
NO. The button once pressed cannot be cancelled or reversed.
