Avabai Petit Girls Shine At National Kho-Kho Tourney

The Bai Avabai Framji Petit Girls High School (Bandra) continue their dominance in the Kho-Kho circuit as five youngsters, headed by Captain Natasha Sui, Jesika Chavda, Zinta Avari, Kerin Patrawalla and Manashni Patrawalla formed the core team of Maharashtra and were declared Runners-Up during the Senior Girls Under-19 Kho-Kho Council’s National Tournament, organised by Sheiling House School, in Kanpur, on 23rd and 24th September, 2018. Rajaram Shetty coached the brilliant Maharashtra side.

Seven teams participated in the tournament, with Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand forming one team, Bihar and Jharkhand clubbed as the second team, Punjab and Delhi forming the third team, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were combined as the fourth, followed by West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. After playing out the initial league stage, the four semi-finalists were Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh/Telangana. During the finals, Maharashtra faced a power packed Uttar Pradesh/Uttarakhand side, where following a tough fight the former clinched a Silver.

More good news awaited the Avabai Petit girls as three of them – Jesika Chavda, Zinta Avari and Manashni Parawalla – have been selected at the School Games Federation of India (SGFI) Kho-Kho Competition, scheduled to be held in India in the months to come. This time again, Shetty has been appointed as the manager of the Senior Girls Under-19 team for the upcoming tournament.
Speaking to Parsi Times, an elated coach Rajaram Shetty said, “It is indeed a very proud moment for me and Petit School as I have nurtured these young kids like a parent in a coach’s role, right from nursery, mainly concentrating on their athletic skills. I would like to thank the management of the school for always trusting and supporting all of us.”
