Prithvi Shaw Makes Record With Test Century Debut: 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw had a dream debut and turned out to be the star for team India on day one at Rajkot V/s West Indies, slamming 134 in 154 deliveries, with 19 boundaries. Mumbai boy Prithvi became the 15th Indian cricketer to score a century in his debut Test Match. He also became the youngest Indian to score a century on debut. The teenager is now also the second youngest Indian ever to score a Test century, after the master himself Sachin Tendulkar. Shaw took just 99 balls to get to his maiden Test century, thus becoming the third batsman to hit his debut ton in under 100 deliveries. He is fourth on the list of highest scorers on debut for India in Tests. Previously too Prithvi has scored his century debuts in the Ranji and Duleep Trophy.

 

India Wins Record Seventh Asia Cup Title: A fabulous all-round show ensured team India grabbed another Asia Cup title win by three wickets against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Put into bat first, Bangladesh scored 222 in 48.3 overs courtesy a brilliant 121 from Man of the Match, Liton Das. At one stage it looked like the Bengal tigers would score close to 300 runs but India pulled things back well to restrict them. After 120-1 in 20.5 overs, they all fell like a pack of cards and were not able to recover. Chinaman bowler Kuldeep Yadav picked 3-45 in his 10 overs while on the other hand he was well supported by Kedar Jadhav who snapped up 2-41 in nine overs.

In reply, though India got off to a great start with skipper Rohit Sharma scoring 48, there were few hiccups in between as the equilibrium kept shifting from one end to another. During the last over, India needed one run in one ball and Kedar Jadhav soaked in all the pressure to take India home. India finished with 223-7 in 50 overs. Shikhar Dhawan was awarded the Man of the Series.

Atletico Madrid, Barcelona Win In Champions League: On 3rd October Griezmann’s brace during the 28th and 67th minute coupled with Koke’s strike in (90+3) helped Atletico Madrid win 3-1 Vs Club Brugge in their Group ‘A’ encounter. Further during a Group ‘B’ game, Barcelona came back strongly to win 4-2 against Tottenham Hotspur. Lionel Messi produced a masterpiece in the form of a brace during the 56th and 90th minute and was well supported by team mates Philippe Coutinho who gave them the initial lead during the 2nd minute scoring their quickest champions league goal since 2005. Rakitic then stole the lime light as he doubled their lead with a half-volley during the 28th minute of the clash.


ARCHERY

Deepika Kumari Bags Bronze: India’s Deepika Kumari made India proud as she stuck in there during an intriguing play-off to down Lisa Unruh, winning the bronze medal in the Archery World Cup Finals in Samsun. Though both players were tied at 5-5 after the end of five sets. Thereafter a shoot-off was necessary. Here, both shot nine but Kumari grabbed Bronze as her arrow was closer to the centre. This was Deepika’s fifth World Cup Finals podium.
