On 17th November, 2018, Rustom Baug’s Senior Citizens group (supported by Rustom Baug Association and SNWMP), held the annual Mela-vedo at the SNWMP lawns. As the name suggests, it was a combination of ‘Mela’ with food, fun and entertainment and a get-together’ (Mela-vedo’), which awarded prizes to children for the Prayer, Art and Elocution contests, and also honoured a senior citizen who brought laurels to the Baug and community.
This year, the Senior Citizens Group or ‘The Super Silvers’, acknowledged the contribution of a sprightly senior, Coomi Sam Kasad, who has won many awards for her talent in playing the harmonica. Tables in red and white were laid out with delicious snacks enticing visitors for a bite. There were also tables selling household items including readymade garments, torans, fancy linen, masalas and perfumes.
The annual event helps ‘The Super Silvers’ collect funds for social service drives that they conduct through the year. All funds collected go towards donating food hampers, toiletries and donations to various orphanages/old peoples’ homes, and also to individuals in need.
All in all, it was a fun evening for the young and the not-so-young amid music, performances, games of Housie, and applause for all the spirited seniors who provided great entertainment and a fun eve!
