Naheed Divecha ‘TRI’umphs At MBA Tourney

Naheed Divecha, ace shuttler from Greater Mumbai, pulled off an amazing set of three back to back wins at the MBA (Maharashtra Badminton Association) Senior State Veteran’s Championship, which was held from 12th to 16th December, 2018, at the Bombay Gymkhana courts. Naheed’s proud brow adorned a ‘Triple Crown’ – winning in the ‘45+ Women Singles’; ‘Women’s Doubles’ and ‘Mixed Doubles’ categories.

A couple of weeks earlier, Naheed had represented her daughter’s school, J B Petit, at the ‘School Mothers Bay-side Throwball Tournament’, winning the Gold Championship and had received the ‘Woman of the Match’ award. In August 2018, Naheed represented India at the First Okinawa International Karate Tournament and came in 4th, missing the Bronze by just 1 point!

Speaking to Parsi Times about her inspirational achievements, Naheed says, “I’ve been determined to win the Triple at the annual State Tournament for over 5 years – I’ve reached the finals of all 3 but wasn’t able to win all 3! This year, with fierce determination I did, and it feels immensely satisfying! Have my eyes set on the Nationals in Goa next month and will hopefully qualify to play the BWF Senior World Championships in Poland next year. I’ve been very regular with my fitness/sports and as we age it gets harder with the challenges getting greater and the recovery, slower. Remaining fit and strong, and mentally challenging myself outside my comfort zone, is what keeps me going!”

Kudos Naheed!
