Goodbye, Sweet Prince!

The Chairman and Trustees of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet deeply mourn the sad demise of veteran thespian Dinyar Contractor (77), the High Priest of Humour on the Parsi Stage in the true tradition of the one and only Adi Marzban.

It was in the fitness of things that he regaled huge audiences with his caustic wit and sarcasm.  He was a gifted actor right from his school days.

Dinyar was the heart and soul of numerous Gujarati and Hindi plays and films. To name a few – Baazigar, Khiladi, ChoriChori, ChupkeChupke, 36 China Town, as well as TV serials like Khiladi, Tarak Mehta KaOoltahChashmaand Do Aur Do Panch.  He was the moving force behind DD’s famous Gujarati serial Avo Mari Sathe.

Amongst Contractor Productions most recent super hit Gujarati comedies were Marriage Nu Spot Fixing and Maro Line To Tabiyet Fine.

As a fitting recognition of his outstanding contribution to the performing arts, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in the Republic Day Honours List 2019.
