India Vs. South Africa: Rohit Sharma Rocks India’s Opening Match: An outstanding century from ‘Man of the Match’, Rohit Sharma (122), with Yuzvendra Chahal’s four wicket haul (4-51) helped India start their World Cup campaign with a 6-wicket win against South Africa at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, England. Batting first, South Africa made 227-9 in 50 overs as Chris Morris top scored with 42. Indian bowlers ran through the Proteas batting attack reducing them to 89-5 in 22.6 overs. Along with Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar snapped up 2-44 while Jasprit Bumrah grabbed 2-35. In reply, India cruised to victory in style with 230-4 in 47.3 overs as Rohit smashed 13 fours and two sixes en-route his century while Hardik Pandya added the finishing touches with a seven ball 15 to end the contest.

Liverpool Win Champions League: A spectacular show from Liverpool ensured they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 during the Champions League final. Mohamed Salah set up the game initially for Liverpool, as they were awarded a penalty kick when Moussa Sissoko was punished for a handball. Salah pelted his penalty shot straight into the net. Divock Origi shot the winning goal. With this Liverpool claimed the trophy for the sixth time with victory over Tottenham in Madrid.

 

BASKETBALL

NBA Finals: Golden State Warriors Beat Toronto Raptors

The Golden State Warriors beat the Toronto Raptors 109-104 to level the best of seven NBA Finals series at 1-1. Klay Thompson top scored for the Warriors with 25 points. Stephen Curry added 23 points while Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard scored a game high 34 points. Andre Iguodala scored a crucial late three pointer shot to seal the win for the Golden State side.

 

HOCKEY

India Win Under-21 Four-Nations Title: The Indian women’s hockey team clinched the Cantor Fitzgerald Under-21 International Four-Nations title after beating Ireland 1-0 in the finals, in Dublin. India ended the tournament on a high note with a great record. With three goals in four matches, Mumtaz Khan finished as the highest goal scorer of the tournament.

 

BADMINTON

Sindhu, Sameer Start Australian Open 2019 With Wins: Indian shuttlers PV Sindhu and Sameer Verma entered the second round of the Australian Open World Tour Super 300 tournament. Sindhu outplayed Indonesia’s Choirunnisa 21-14, 21-9 which concluded in a one sided contest while Verma thrashed Malaysia’s Lee Zii Jia 21-15, 16-21, 21-12 during the opening round of the men’s singles contest.
