Daisy P. Navdar is a teacher by profession and a firm believer in the efficacy of our Manthravani. She is focused on ensuring that the deep significance of our prayers is realized by our youth. She credits her learnings and insights, shared in her articles, to all Zoroastrian priests and scholars whose efforts have contributed towards providing light and wisdom for all Zarthostis.

For us Zoroastrians, Fire has long been a symbol of our worship. We revere fire and relate its light and energy to the magnificent energy of Pak Dadar Ahura Mazda. We bow in reverence to our holy fires and perform the intricate boi ceremony, in worship and praise of the holy flame. It is strange how the reverence of Fire is not just symbolic to our faith, but is universally acknowledged as worthy of worship. I bring you below, an excerpt from my book, ‘The Journey’, which is the biography of the Princess of Wankaner…

The brilliant Sun, the giver of all life, is the ultimate source of all energy generated on earth. Fire is created in the image of the Divine Universal Spirit that dwells within us all. Fire, the element that devours all it is fed and gives off accordingly. Fire, the element that resides at the core of the earth, very similar to the fire we all hold within ourselves, our body temperature.

This is the fire of our physical self that metamorphoses food into energy to sustain our body. It is the only element that purifies all that it consumes. But when we feed it toxic fuel, it gives back the same to us in the form of greenhouse gases and life threatening pollution. Similarly, when we feed our internal fires with unnatural artificially processed foods, we are given pollution in the form of cancer and other terminal diseases.

Fire is the energy we expel in the form of speech, when we are unwell, we do not like to speak, and we feel too tired to talk or walk. Friction causes fire, like forest fires which are caused by friction between two trees. So too, the same life giving fire, when in friction, fired by the mind, causes agitation and discord between people, family, friends etc.

If we worked together as one World Nation, to research, to solve and regain our delicate global balances, then that would be a giant step for mankind, at large. We can combat all this and more if we live a life of self-actualization or complete and total awareness of the Self.

We have to let the latent divine energy within us, our holy fire, flourish and glow. We have to let its divine force guide us into a glorious future, where for millennia to come, man keeps the flame of ultimate knowledge lit brightly. Let us be the Keepers of the Fire!
