APP Holds Annual Awards Function

The Ahmedabad Parsi Panchayat (APP) held its Annual Awards Function on the lawns of Sir Navroji Vakil Hall, Sanatorium, on 12th January, 2020. About thirty Zoroastrian residents of Ahmedabad were recognized for their outstanding performances in academics and other areas, and awarded by Brig. (Retd) Jahangir P. Anklesaria, VSM President, APP.

Pervin Gandhi Variava, Sunny Karanjawala (despite being visually impaired, achieved his doctorate) and Er. Khushroo Ghadiali were felicitated for obtaining their Ph.D. degrees. Special appreciation prizes were awarded to Khushnum Avari (for winning the Ms Inspiration Title in Greece); Dhun Unwala (educator to generations of students at St. Xaviers School, being appointed Vice Principle – the only Indian to get this position) and still working at the age of 76 and still working for the school!

A Community Award was presented to Er. Navroze B. Kanga for serving not as a voluntary mobed as well as also serving the Panchayat for three decades as Committee Member, Secretary and Trustee. Businessman Areez P. Khambatta, who had been elected as Trustee and President of APP for three terms, received the Lifetime Achievement Award. He was associated with the Home Guards as Commandant for several years and was awarded the Sammanpatra from the Gujarat Govt for being the highest taxpayer.

The gathering of nearly two hundred and fifty humdins then sang Chhaiye Ame Jarthosti and the National Anthem before concluding the evening with a Gambhar hosted in memory of Soonamai and Phiroze Davar, by their daughter, Armaity Davar.
