Dr. Cyres Awarded‘International Hero Of Indian Ophthalmology’ and ‘Star Of India’

On 15th February, 2020, Dr. Cyres Mehta, the nation’s foremost eye surgeon, globally distinguished for his path-breaking achievements and research in eye care, was felicitated with the eminent ‘International Hero Of Indian Ophthalmology’ and ‘Star Of India’ Awards, by the prestigious All India Ophthalmological Society (AIOS), for the third year running, at the All India Eye Surgeons Convention, held in Gurugram, Haryana. Padmashri Prof. Dr.Mahipal Sachdev,President of AIOS, conferred the awards on Dr. Cyres,in the midst of over nine thousand doctors from twenty countries, who were attending the Conference.

The ‘Star Of India’ award is an extremely significant award bestowed on very select eye surgeons in India, who have, for at least three years in a row, brought back laurels to the country.

Dr.Cyres was asked to teach Robotic Laser Cataract surgery as well as ‘SMILE’- the newest type of laser austere to remove eye numbers, without a cut on the eye. Only a handful of surgeons in India practice robotic cataract surgery, but it is gaining greatly in preference as it safely tackles the toughest cataracts. There are very few SMILE machines in the country as these costupwards of Rs. 4.5 crores.This technology is far safer than LASIK and has none of the side effects of Lasik such as dryness of the eyes and glare at night.

Speaking on the occasion, Padmashri Prof. Dr. Sachdev said, “Dr. Cyres has brought great laurels to the country. No one deserves this award more than him!”

Dr. Cyres Mehta’s journey has been exemplary, extraordinarily inspiring and unmatched. He continues to do the community and the nation proud with such national and global felicitations and awards pouring in, in recognition of his unparalleled contributions in advanced eye care and extremely complicated procedures and treatments. Dr. Cyreswas also the very first Indian to be awarded the prestigious ‘Presbymania Award’ last year in May, in Poland.
