MBZA Holds Gala ‘Starlight – 5’!

On the eve of 7th March, 2020, the Malcolm Baug Zoroastrian Association (MBZA) held its fifth edition of the extremely popular, annual gala musical night – ‘Starlight’ – at the Baug-grounds, amidst great energy and entertainment, showcasing great talent within our Community. With Media Partner – Parsi Times – ‘Starlight – 5’ turned out to be one rocking evening enjoyed thoroughly by 700 attendees comprising the residents of Malcolm Baug and visitors from all over Mumbai, who were regaled by the fab Parsi talent across numerous brilliant and dazzling performers from all ages groups and music genres.

Dynamic host and compere – Hormuz Ragina kicked off the event with a warm and fun welcome, followed by the devotional prayer song, ‘Asho Zarthost Paigamber’ rendered by the Ladies Choir – ‘Ensemble of Malcolm Baug’, trained by Jamshed Kotwal. Next, a Garba by the spirited ladies of Malcolm Baug had the audience applauding. The kids of Malcolm Baug soulfully sang the lovely ‘If All The Rain Drops’ song, trained by popular singer, Shazneen Arethna. The young and the not-so-young dazzled the packed audiences with their various talents – a few performances that stood out included Hormuz Katrak who played ‘Senorita’ on the violin; Roomi Maneckshaw’s vocal rendition of  ‘Rhine Stone Cowboy’; Khushnuma Master (vocals) and Mishka Kavarana (piano) performing ‘Hey Jude’; with excellent singers and performers – Cyrus Dubash, Theon Lagrana, Dr. Eric Mirza, Dilnaaz Mody, Nazneen Gamadia, Delnavaz Patel and others. Finally, Jamshed Kotwal sang a few Gujarati songs.

The kids of Malcolm Baug danced energetically to ABBA, trained by Pearl Barsiwala and Delrina Mohta. The MBZA Trustees and President then held the Prize Distribution ceremony, honouring deserving colony students with scholarships; followed by felicitating the sponsors. The highlight of the eve was the newly formed band – The Groove Garden – comprising the fab singers Hormuz Ragina, Sarosh Nanavaty, Shazneen Arethna and Jerusha Patel, alongside band members Brent Tauro, Gavin Cason, Aloysious Henriques and Danesh Khambatta.

The eve, which had hundreds of attendees dancing throughout for the most part, concluded with a sumptuous dinner by queen of caterers, Tanaz Godiwalla, marking the end of yet another fabulous chapter of one of our Community’s leading musical events – ‘Starlight’ by MBZA.
