T20 Women’s World Cup: Aus In Finals After Beating SA

Australia Women won by five runs as per the DLS method in a rain curtailed encounter as the second innings was reduced to 13 overs, the revised target being 98 for South Africa Women. Batting first, Australia scored 134-5 in 20 overs as skipper and Player of the Match, Meg Lanning top scored with an unbeaten 49. For the Proteas, Nadine de Klerk picked (3-19) in four overs. With 98 to get off 13 overs, the SA Women finished with 92-5. Australia now faces India in the finals at Melbourne.

Saurashtra In Ranji Trophy Final

 Arpit Vasavada’s stellar batting (139) for Saurashtra in the second innings alongside skipper Jaydev Unadkat’s 10 wicket match haul and Sheldon Jackson’s masterclass 103 (first innings) helped last year’s runners-up beat Gujarat by 92 runs in the semi-finals at Rajkot. Batting in their first innings, Saurashtra posted a mammoth 304 in 127.4 overs as en-route his century Sheldon smashed 15 fours and 2 sixes. Speedster Arzan Nagwaswalla of Gujarat scalped a five-wicket haul (5-81) in 29 overs. In reply, Gujarat scored 252 in 87.3 overs as Rujul Bhatt made 71. Batting again during the second innings, Saurashtra’s Arpit and Chirag Jani (51) brought their team on the winning track at 274 in 98.4 overs. For Gujarat, Chintan Gaja snapped up 7-71. Gujarat was bowled out for 234 in the 4th innings with skipper Parthiv Patel (93) and Gandhi (96). Saurashtra faces Bengal in the Ranji Trophy finals.

BASKETBALL

BBL Trophy- Newcastle Clinch Final Spot

Newcastle Eagles held off a late charge by Cheshire Phoenix to secure a place in the BBL Trophy final despite losing 75-67 at home. Darius Defoe had 13 points for the Eagles in his 47th match.
