The Yasht Series: Khordad Yasht ‘Khordad Ameshaspand – The Perfect One!’

I invite you to join me as I journey through the wonderful teachings shared in a Khordeh Avesta, which was printed in 1902 – more than a 100 years ago! Authored by Dinbai Sohrabji Engineer, the teachings, stories and notes in this book speak about the various powers of our prayers, while sharing anecdotes of people who have used these prayers and the tremendous achievements that each has accomplished.

Perfection is God’s business – we are merely human.

Khordad Ameshaspand is also known as Haurvatat or perfection. Khordad is the ruler of the skies and the waters, the enhancer of the growth of crops. Even though the sky is not the same at any given moment during the day, it is perfect every second. The sea – whether it is the lashing waves of the storm or the gentle ripples of the calm, be it the incoming roar of the tide or the receding whisper of the ebb – is perfect!

The Khordad Yasht is one of the shorter Yashts in our prayers but the effects have far reaching benefits. This Yasht is particularly beneficial in combating the mal effects of Mercury (Budh) in our astrological charts. Just by looking at some of the ill effects brought by Mercury in a bad position (Dindasha) makes me wonder about the real healing properties of the Khordad Yasht!

I have shared herein some basic information about the Nature of the planet Mercury as taken from the writings of Mr. Subhash on his astrological website:

‘Mercury is adored for bestowment of blessings of good education, business, sharp intellect, and pleasing appearance and also to keep off from heat-induced ailments, general debility and depression. The planet also monitors the family affairs in life. It is related to peace of mind, earnings, intellect, education and business, if it is favorable. Mercury in Vedic astrology is known as BUDHA, the awakened discriminating intellect and the part of us that knows.

Mercury Diseases: When ill-aspected, Mercury gives chronic dysentery, constipation, lack of digestive fire, lung diseases, asthma, restlessness, kidney problems, fear, neurosis, and madness.’

Even if most of us do not fully comprehend or believe the relationship between astrological charts and our lives, we can still relate to some of the difficulties that are mentioned. When we fall ill, do we hesitate to approach a doctor so that we are cured of our malaise? No, we don’t. Similarly, when it is categorically stated in our scriptures, that some prayers can assist in curing our sickness, then why should we not adopt the same?

Starting to pray an entire Yasht definitely takes a lot of discipline and dedication. But the most important question that you have to ask yourself is this – how much am I willing to give up so that I can heal myself or my loved one of their sickness. The answer itself will light the way forward. I humbly urge you that as we have a tremendous wealth of healing and light in our manthra, we must make it a point to induct it into our lives. Khordad Yasht is the vibration of perfection – it can make our lives – perfect!
