Surat Parsi Panchayat Arranges Vaccinations For Seniors

In keeping with the surge of the novel coronavirus across Gujarat, the Surat Parsee Panchayat (SPP) decided to support and protect the senior community members residing in Surat. Along with the support of the Surat Municipal Corporation authorities, the SPP arranged for the free vaccination of 90 senior Parsi beneficiaries, including 5 bed-ridden patients, in Surat’s Parsi General Hospital located at Shahpore, on 16th March, 2020. The first dose of Covishield vaccine was administered to all 90 seniors with no adverse after-effects post vaccination.

Senior SPP Trustee and former Medical Superintendent Director, Surat Municipal Corporation, Dr. Homi Doodhwala was present through the session, along with his wife, Dr. Persis, who patiently explained the benefits of taking the vaccine to the beneficiaries, and coordinated the entire event successfully, with her supportive team of Surat Municipal Corporation. Both – Dr. Homi and Dr. Persis had been vaccinated earlier this year.

In view of tremendous awareness and response from the community, Dr. Homi and Dr. Persis are planning to arrange another such vaccination drive soon for other Parsi seniors above 60 years of age, as also those above 45 with comorbidities. The organisers again expect a plentiful response for the forthcoming vaccination session.
