This Topsy-Turvy World!

We live in a topsy-turvy world, in topsy-turvy times! As Tennyson said, “Old order changeth yielding place to new, And God fulfills himself in many ways, lest one good custom should corrupt the world.”  In keeping with the times, the word ‘Nature’ seems a better fit than ‘God’. Man has tried to play God and upset the laws of nature. Nature has indulged man with her fascinating beauty and wonders… from snowy Switzerland to craggy Scotland and from Goa to Greenland and Galapagos!

And what has man done in return? Man has displaced the woody green, life-supporting jungles with his concrete equivalents. He has ravaged and ruined the beautiful blue-green planet till this seventh rock from Sun could tolerate no more and had to hit back with cyclones, floods, melting ice caps, diminishing polar regions, deserts creeping and spreading their sandy tentacles over the fertile lands…. and now this novel coronusvirus, which is, no pun intended, the ‘crowning’ glory of all things devastating. Nature has hit back with vehemence – the kind which has never been known before in the history of mankind.

Nature has hit back with vehemence – the kind which has never been known before in the history of mankind.

Or is it man himself who is hurrying his own destruction? Some conspiracies claim that this curse is a man-made phenomenon – a product of sick minds, of evil genius. One might sound morbid, yet one is hopeful. We have eons of collective sagacity behind us that ensure the eternal and irrefutable good in man. Hope springs eternal. Mankind has been blessed with far better, sane, creative minds that will, in due course, find solutions to fight these bad times that have befallen us.

If manmade, then the virus might be the result of many, many years of Ahrimanic endeavors; but within just a year, many good men have found a way to prevent it and fight it. Within just over a year, scientists across the world have developed vaccines to control this ruthless killer. Till such time, the triad – cleanliness, social distancing and wearing maskswill help prevent the rampant killing spree of this virus. This must be enforced relentlessly. Zoroastrianism exhorts us to be clean in body, mind and soul and lays great emphasis on environmental cleanliness too. Earth, water, air and fire are revered; and we are enjoined to live in harmony with Mother Nature.

This is the need of the hour. Misinformation, superstitions, placebos and religious fanaticism have done enough harm to the country. Politicians and their political rallies have played havoc upon the populace. Black marketers look upon this curse as a God-sent opportunity to make quick blood-money. We need a strong, or rather, a ruthless approach to handle these law-breakers.  The votes-uppermost-in-mind type of pussyfooting must stop, otherwise the future could look even more bleak.

Despite the doomsday forecasts, one is certain, sooner or later, that we will overcome this bad time that has befallen upon us. Let us hope it will be soon, much sooner. Hang in there and keep the faith, follow the tenets of our glorious religion. And soon, this too shall pass!
