Khaddar Sari Woven By Mahatma Gandhi Presented To Alpaiwalla Museum By Bhadha Family, Belgaum

Commodore Medioma Bhadha, on behalf of the Bhadha family, recently donated a Khaddar Sari gifted to his Mother – Maneckbai Siavaxa Bhadha – by Mahatma Gandhi on her wedding. This was in recognition of her participation with her husband-to-be – Siavaxa Bhadha, in the historic Dandi Salt March in 1930, and their subsequent incarceration by the British Government. The Khaddar Sari was woven out of the thread spun by Mahatma Gandhi and presented to Maneckbai Siavaxa Bhadha, by the Mahatma himself.

“This is an awe inspiring, historic, gift which will enhance greatly the F D Alpaiwalla Collection and add historic value to the museum’s collection. We are indeed proud that the Bhadha family has chosen to single out the FD Alpaiwalla Museum as a recipient for this treasured gift,” shared Pheroza J Godrej and Firoza Punthakey Mistree.
