Salsette Parsi Colony Holds Clean-Up Drive

A Clean-Up Drive was organised by a few enthusiastic residents of Salsette Parsi Colony, on 17th October, 2021. Salsette Welfare Association (SWA) members and volunteers, across age groups, picked up different kinds of waste from various parts of the colony, in keeping with the devastating impact of plastic on the environment and the government’s initiatives to ban its usage, with the aim of responsibly recycling plastic waste.

SWA partnered with Bisleri for their ‘Bottles for Change’ initiative, where, instead of throwing plastic waste away (including polythene bags, milk pouches, plastic boxes, biscuit/chocolate/chips wrappers, plastic oil cans, water/cold drink bottles, etc.) in the bin along with regular waste, residents simply rinsed and collected their daily-use plastic materials and deposited these at common collection spots throughout the colony. This is then collected by a pick-up van which takes it for recycling.

Volunteers went door to door in each building to create awareness about this initiative among Salsette residents, who cooperated in return to put out 30 kgs of plastic – which went into recycling instead of landfills.
