Drinking Water Podium And Pavement Reconstruction At Bhikha Behram Well

On 21st June, 2022, a number of community members gathered at the Holy Bhikha Behram Well, located in South Mumbai, to mark the Mahurat Ceremony of constructing a drinking water podium as well as renovating the pavement adjacent to the well. This remodelling took place, thanks to the initiative and efforts of Diniar Darab Mehta – President of Minority (Parsi) Cell and Vice-President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Colaba Vidhan Sabha); and with the support of Municipal Corporator – Makrand Narvekar

Recently, the Trustees of the Bhikha Behram Well had approached Diniar Mehta – known for his dedication to Community Service, with a special request for the repair and reconstruction of the road adjacent to our well in order to avoid internal flooding during the monsoons, as the pathway is in a very dilapidated condition. They also requested that a drinking water podium be constructed for thirsty travelers.

Putting to use his good offices, Diniar Mehta wrote to the Municipal Corporator, Makrand Narvekar – known for his dynamic and proactive approach towards resolving residents’ civic inconveniences – and collectively, they got the requisite permissions to get the project started. Newly elected BPP Trustee, Hoshi Jal, was also present at the event, alongside Homiar Vakil and Shahrukh Davar – Trustees of Bhikha Behram Well.

Speaking on the occasion Diniar Mehta said, “I have been a regular devotee of our Bhikha Behram Kua for decades. It was my privilege that I could play a small role in helping with this reconstruction of the pavements and facilitating the noble deed of setting up a drinking water podium. I thank Shri Makrand Narvekar for all his support in getting this project started.”

The auspicious coconut-breaking was done by Makrand Narvekar and others, in the presence of BMC officials.  The project is slated to take two to three weeks for completion. The remodelling and clearing of the adjacent pavements will provide greater convenience and safety for pedestrians, especially Parsi community members who regularly visit the Holy Bhikha Behram Well.

Diniar Mehta is also the owner of the popular travel agency, ‘Dini Travels’. As a community worker, he looks to help Parsis with genuine causes. Connect with him at 09892242994 or email: dinitravels@gmail.com.
