Heartiest Welcome To Our New Indian President – Smt. Droupadi Murmu
Dear Readers,
As India welcomes our 15th President – Smt. Droupadi Murmu, there is much reason to celebrate and take pride in our nation’s new First Citizen and the Supreme Commander of India’s Armed Forces.
At a time when the so-called ‘global superpower’, deemed to be at the forefront of first world nations, unveils its ugly underbelly and brazenly abuses women’s rights by passing a regressive law on a subject as personal and intimate to women as abortion, India has emerged as the real champion of Women’s Empowerment as well as Secularism – with Smt. Droupadi Murmu making history, for being elected as India’s first Tribal Woman President.
Another ‘first’ attributed to her, was when she became the first ever woman Governor of Jharkhand in 2015. Droupadi Murmu’s moving journey from her very humble beginnings in Odisha, to assuming the ultimate position of the first citizen of India, is reflective of a potentially golden era in women’s empowerment and healthy democracy.
Her election as President reinforces the real spirit of India’s vibrant democracy – it is motivational to millions, especially the minorities, when a tribal woman from a small village in Odisha diligently works her way to head the Rashtrapati Bhavan! She has now become the icon of women’s education, valour and empowerment of a ‘New India’, one which we hope is marked by course correction and the reinforcement of the ethos enshrined in the Indian Constitution by our visionary Founding Fathers.
It is historic moments as these that make us proud to be Indians, and more so, privileged to be Indian women. As one of the world’s most minuscule minority communities, we take great pleasure, with equal measures of hope, in welcoming and congratulating our new dynamic and inspiring 15th President of India – Smt. Droupadi Murmu.
