9th August, 2022 marked the 141st Birth Anniversary of Central Bank of India’s Founder, Sir Sorabji Pochkhanawalla, commemorated by MD & CEO – M V Rao, along with other Directors, GMs, dignitaries, and Chief Guest – Dr. Pilloo Hakim – the Founder’s grand-daughter, who garlanded the statue and the bust. The lamp-lighting ceremony took place at the main office in Mumbai’s iconic building, followed by a function organized at their SPBT Training College, Vile Parle (West), Mumbai.

B S Harilal – Principal, SPBT college welcomed the dignitaries, praising how the institution had grown over the past 17 months, under the MD & CEO. M V Rao shared how the Founder believed that the bank is the property of the nation – “A bank of the people and for the people”. A disciplinarian but an unassuming person, Sorabji preferred staying away from the limelight. His philosophy to create a win-win situation for the bank and its customers has stood the test of time. Rao urged Centralities to inculcate these qualities and take the bank to greater heights.

The launch of new products and initiatives for customers were announced at the function. The bank honored and felicitated children of two employees who qualified for the IAS cadre, as also good performance of the bank’s recognized Sports-persons. The bank provided Compassionate Employment letters to 185 dependents of the deceased Indian employees on the occasion. The function concluded with a vote of thanks by GM Vasti Venkatesh.

Sir Sorabji founded the bank in 1907, at age 28, and was conferred with knighthood in 1935 as an appreciation for his dedicated services to banking industry.
