Cusrow Baug came alive from 3^rd – 10^th May, 2025, as the sixth edition of the CBPL (Cusrow Baug Premier League) served up a sporty cocktail of competition and camaraderie, despite unseasonal weather and global unrest threatening to rain on the parade.

Launched in 2015, the IPL-style franchise tournament featured four spirited teams: The Spartans (led by Sherzad Besania); The Warriors (Hoshang Yazdegardi); The Chargers (Phiroze Colabawala); and The Giants (Rustom Dehmiri). The buzz began with an auction held earlier, setting the tone for a week of high-energy matches in Volleyball, Throwball and Football.

While The Warriors struggled to find form, the other teams put up strong performances. The Spartans clinched the Volleyball title in a thrilling final against The Chargers, who rebounded with a dominant win in Throwball. In a surprise twist, The Giants took the Football crown with a 2 – 0 victory over The Chargers.

But it was consistency that crowned The Chargers as the CBPL 2025 champions. Having reached all three finals, they only needed one win to claim the title – and they did just that with their Throwball triumph, marking their first championship win since 2016! Zubin Patel, representing title sponsor, ‘Rustomjee’ presided as Chief Guest for the finals.

Top individual honours at CBPL 2025 were awarded to standout performers across all three sports. Zubin Jaorewalla (Spartans) won ‘Volleyball Player of the Tournament’, while Maheet Desai (Chargers) was declared ‘Throwball Player of the Tournament’, and Zarayus Anklesaria (Giants) claimed the ‘Football Player of the Tournament’ for their exceptional performances.

CBPL 2025 wrapped up on a celebratory note, with much appreciation for physiotherapist Tushna Unvala, as also dynamic emcees – Tinaz Toddywalla, Mahnaz Chanduwadia and Franac Irani. Chief Guest Zubin Patel was lauded for championing community sports. Food vendors – Kianna’s Desserts, Zeus’ Burgers, RTI, Raman Dosa, and Café Universal – ensured everyone stayed well-fuelled. Despite unpredictable weather, the tournament highlighted the resilience and unity of the community, paving the way for an even more exciting CBPL 2026!
