Mevawala Agyari Celebrates 151st Salgreh

Mumbai’s Seth B.M. Mevawala Agyari (Byculla) celebrated its glorious 151st Salgeh (Anniversary) on Monday, 28th April 2025 (Roj Sarosh, Mah Adar). A good number of devotees came to pay their respects, attending the early morning Havan Gah Machi, visiting through the day and late evening.

Panthaky Er. Dr. Parvez M. Bajan performed the morning Jashan in honour of the founder. The evening Jashan was led by his grandson Er. Jehan D Bajan, presided by Chief Guest – Noshir H. Dadrawala, who addressed the gathering on various aspects of Zoroastrian history and how good Zoroastrians should lead their daily lives – with Raasti (truth) and Radhi (charity). He emphasized that charity went beyond money to include kind thoughts, words and actions. He said prayers were positive affirmations that guide a balanced, purposeful life, and true prosperity meant overall well-being, not just wealth.

Er. Dr. Parvez Bajan shared a brief history of the Agyari, explaining how it was relocated from Bhindi Bazar to its current site after Mumbai’s 19th century riots. The event continued with soulful Monajats sung by Viraf Daruvalla, Marazban Wadia and Jamshed Kotwal. Er. Bajan also felicitated the Agyari’s three trustees, several priests, helpers, and his Avesta Pahlavi students, including Dr. Hutoxi Zaroliwalla, who spoke about the significance of fire and prayer. Young attendees received flowers in appreciation. The evening concluded with the uplifting rendition of Chayye Hame Zarthoshty, followed by the distribution of Chashni and refreshment boxes for all.
