Dear Readers,
As dark clouds gather and the scent of parched earth welcomes the heavenly showers, we are reminded of our deep-rooted reverence for nature’s elements, which comprise the core of our glorious faith. Rain is revered as more than just a welcome relief from the scorching summer heat… it’s a divine blessing which purifies and nourishes, it’s the ultimate symbol of renewal.
In our sacred texts, we worship water, symbolised by ‘Avan Yazad’ – a holy, living symbol of purity bringing in an eternal flow of blessings from our Creator – Ahura Mazda. The advent of the rains is thus, far more than a seasonal shift to Zoroastrians – it’s a profound spiritual summons, calling upon us to show gratitude, to cleanse our spirits and to nurture all that we hold dear. It’s a time for quiet reflection and for sowing new seeds of growth, renewal and purpose… both, in the soil beneath us and in the soul within.
Even as we welcome this season of rejuvenation, it’s important to be cautious. The monsoon brings along the potential for waterborne illnesses and infections, especially amongst the elderly. More recently, a mild strain of COVID has made an appearance across parts of Asia, with a few cases in India as well. While there’s no cause for panic, as it’s a notably weaker strain, we would be wise to stay prepared – using masks in crowded places, taking the flu shot (Pg. 14), practising hand hygiene and basic immune care, which will go a long way in protecting ourselves and our loved ones.
On a brighter global note which fills us with Parsi Pride, the Zoroastrian Trust Funds of Europe (ZTFE) was honoured with an invitation to represent our global community at the historic inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, on 18th May. This recognition reaffirms our unique role as torchbearers of an ancient, noble faith – one that continues to illuminate paths of peace, dialogue and mutual respect across cultures… a powerful testament to the enduring presence and relevance of Zoroastrianism on the world stage.
As the parched earth awakens beneath the monsoon’s touch, may we too be washed free of worry, replenished in spirit and renewed in hope! Here’s wishing our readers a safe, healthy and fun monsoon season!
Have a lovely weekend!
