Log In to Legacy: Building Digital Bridges

Dear Readers,

Our community has long stood at the crossroads of tradition and progress – rich in heritage and agile in adaptation. It’s time we embraced a much-needed upgrade – not just in our values, but in our connectivity. With Parsis spread across the globe in precious micro-communities, from Colaba to Canada and Sanjan to Sydney, staying meaningfully connected is no longer a luxury but a necessity.

As home to the largest Parsi population, Mumbai continues to be the heart of our communal pulse – from housing our sacred institutions to being the hub for events, news and religious activity. Yet, many Parsis living outside this nucleus, or even within, often feel a growing disconnect.

The good news? Technology can bridge that gap. Going digital may seem intimidating for seniors but they can start with small steps – joining a family WhatsApp group, attending online community talks via Zoom, or simply subscribing to the digital edition of Parsi Times! With just a smartphone or tablet, one can participate in live Jashans, watch religious ceremonies, or listen to insightful talks on Zoroastrianism – all from the comfort of one’s home.

Younger Parsis could take the lead here – teaching their parents and grandparents how to use Zoom, YouTube, email or other Apps. Baugs could have monthly ‘Tech Help Days’, where the young assist the old. A couple of hours invested on a Sunday teaching a grandparent how to join a Zoom call or access other Apps, can help bridge generations while building confidence! Trusts and institutions can livestream events, host webinars and keep their websites updated.

In an age where distances no longer have to mean disconnection, let’s not be left behind. Let’s use technology not just as a tool, but as a thread, to weave tighter bonds across generations and geographies. Because when we stay connected, we stay rooted. And in that shared connection lies the enduring strength of our beloved community!

Have a lovely weekend!
