The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow conferred an honorary fellowship on Lord Karan Bilimoria, for his stellar contributions and services in the fields of education and business, at a Diploma Ceremony, held on the eve of 21st May, 2025. The prestigious fellowship was presented by College President, Professor Hany Eteiba. Lord Bilimoria was joined by the Royal College’s newest Fellows and Members during the ceremony which celebrates the achievements of physicians, surgeons, dentists and podiatric medical professionals.
Lord Bilimoria is the Founding Chairman of the UK India Business Council, a Lieutenant to His Majesty’s Commission of Lieutenancy for the City of London and a Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London. Speaking on the occasion, Lord Bilimoria said, “This is such a special day and occasion to be honoured by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. It is such an ancient and highly respected institution in the medical world, not just in the UK but globally. I was brought up as a child in India and you would see doctors with the letters FRCS Glasgow after their names, and now here I am at the actual institution and it’s like a dream come true for me!”
Praising Lord Bilimoria, Professor Hany Eteiba said, “It is a great pleasure to welcome Lord Bilimoria as an Honorary Fellow of our College. His commitment to improving education and support for students from across the world is inspiring. He shares the value we place in learning, recognising the importance of providing high quality education as a cornerstone for success. We look forward to collaborating with him to further expand this mission.”
Lord Bilimoria is one of the first two visiting entrepreneurs at the University of Cambridge and a founding member of the Prime Minister of India’s Global Advisory Council. In 2006, he became the first-ever Zoroastrian Parsi to sit in the House of Lords. The former Chancellor of Thames Valley University (now University of West London), he served as the seventh Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, becoming the first Indian-born Chancellor of a Russell Group University in the UK.
The co-chair of the Digital Transformation Taskforce at B20 South Africa, Lord Bilimoria is also co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for International Students and serves as President of the UK Council for International Student Affairs. In 2022, he became a non-remunerative trustee of Policy Exchange, a non-profit educational charity. That same year, he joined the board of the International Chamber of Commerce UK and was appointed Chairman of the Board in January 2025.
