Dear Readers,
The rains have made their presence felt in full glory… and fury! The monsoon drama is full-on, with drenched backdrops, background thunder and plenty of overacting by the drains! While steaming cups of choi and bhakras make for the perfect rainy-day indulgence, we’ve all experienced the other side of this season only too well… waterlogged roads, traffic snarls, flooding, power cuts and a surge in the ever-reliable ‘no network’ excuses.
But beyond the inconvenience lies a deeper call – to look out for each other. This is especially relevant to most of our elderly community members who live alone. With frequent power outages and mobility concerns, even stepping out to buy bread or run small errands becomes a challenge. If you live in baugs or colonies, check in on neighbouring seniors. Offer to run a quick errand, recharge their sim-cards or just be there for a reassuring chat during stormy nights. Check in on each other if you’ve ended up with the dreaded flu! A simple gesture can be the warmest comfort on the dampest days.
Our cities may come to a pause during the monsoons, but our Parsi spirit doesn’t. From helping someone cross a flooded lane to sharing an umbrella with a stranger, these small acts add up. And yes, if the lift’s out again and your neighbour’s stuck on the fifth floor, maybe it’s time to channel your inner Rustom and lend a hand… quite literally! It’s all about Bawa-bandagi during the monsoon mayhem!
The rain will eventually let up. The sun will shine again. But until then, let’s make this season more than just about staying dry, let’s make it about staying connected. Let’s be umbrellas for each other… not just shields from the rain, but shelters in the storm.
Have a good weekend!
