…Because Life’s Only Certainty Is Its Unpredictability
Dear Readers,
We are just half way through 2025, and already this year is going down in history for an unusual spate of misfortunes. From the distant echoes of the Iran-Israel war to tragedies closer to home – the Pahalgam terror attack, the Air India Flight 171 crash, train derailments, building collapses and devastating fires – we are reminded that life’s certainties are few. Even amid bustling routines, the sudden passing of seemingly healthy young adults has jolted us all.
Through every headline and heartfelt tribute, one truth emerges: existence is a delicate thread, ever-susceptible to forces beyond our control. They say one of life’s greatest truths is: ‘The only constant in life is change’. To this we can safely add, that the only thing certainty about life is its unpredictability. And while we cannot command fate, we do hold power over how we live each day…
Kindness need not await perfect circumstances; words of love or reassurance need not be postponed due to false pride or lack of time. A quick call to an old friend, a long-postponed trip with family, or a simple embrace can become tomorrow’s most cherished memory. This applies as much for ourselves – we need to start sneaking things from our ‘Bucket List’ into our ‘To Do List’!
Those small and not-so-small promises made to yourself deserve to be delivered – be it taking the time to read a favourite book or watching an old classic or dancing barefoot in the rain or taking a trip to that place no one’s heard of! It’s these small aspirations, which may seem trivial in the moment but shape a life well lived. If you’ve been meaning to volunteer at the local Agiary or visit an old-age home, start this weekend. Don’t defer joy or generosity until ‘someday’.
Our community has weathered storms before – through migrations, trials and reinvention – and emerged resilient. That same spirit lives in each of us now. While the shadow of unpredictability will always loom large, the steadfast light of hope guides our steps, emboldening us to believe in the promise of brighter tomorrows.
So, seize this fragile gift of life with open hearts. Speak your truth, spread your laughter and embrace every dawn as a precious privilege. In doing so, we honour those we’ve lost while building a future rich in meaning, connection and joy. After all, like they say, the greatest regret is not in the moments we miss, but in the moments we never dared to live.
Have a lovely weekend!
