This year’s edition of the XYZ LAFA (Literary Arts and Fine Arts) event, held on 13th July, at The Bai B.S. Bengallee Girl’s High School, stood out not only for the enthusiastic participation of children and youth but also for the introduction of a heartwarming new category – the XYZ Silvers, inviting participants aged 55 and above to showcase their creativity. With seven age-based categories ranging from under 7 to over 55, the event truly embraced all generations under one creative umbrella.
With over 220 participants across 22 exciting events, the day was a lively mix of learning, performance, and artistic expression. The Literary Art segment brimmed with challenges that fostered self‑expression. Participants showcased their language prowess in poetry recitations, impromptu speeches, spelling bee, Vocabulary Wizard, and Turn Quote Debate. Pictogram, Wordsmith, and Caption contests added flair, making the competition enriching and entertaining. The Fine Art section transformed the venue into a vibrant studio. Young creators designed beach‑themed collages and placemats, experimented with flower‑and‑leaf envelope art, painted shoes, and upcycled T‑shirts.
Unique projects such as XYZ‑inspired phone covers and glass bottle paintings highlighted innovation, while the “Capture the Essence of Mumbai” photography challenge invited artists to reinterpret their city through fresh perspectives. The highlight was the enthusiastic participation of the newly introduced Silvers category, who brought a special charm to the event, with their intricate embroidery and expressive paintings.
Judges included teachers, artists and writers whose guidance further enhanced the experience for all participants. The event celebrated expression, connection and community, culminating in Jamshed’s Giants triumphantly claiming the LAFA 2025 title.
