From bustling Mumbai baugs to quiet prayer halls abroad, the Parsi New Year was welcomed with joy, reverence and camaraderie across the world. Families gathered in Agiaries and Atash Behrams for special prayers, while community centres came alive with traditional feasting, music and laughter. Colonies, baugs and residences lit up with floral rangolis, festive attire and the unmistakable fragrance of salli-boti and patra-ni-macchi. Overseas, from London to Toronto and Sydney to Singapore, Zoroastrians upheld tradition with Jashans, cultural programs and shared meals, uniting the diaspora in a celebration that bridged continents.

The spirit of Navroz was reflected in prayers as well as in acts of kindness, with many trusts and associations organising food drives, charity initiatives and communal lunches for the less privileged. Each city and town offered its own flavour of festivity, yet the common thread remained an affirmation of faith, family and community pride.

Mumbai and Thane: The city’s Parsi fire temples were abuzz with increased attendance, blending Navroz prayers with India’s Independence Day revelry. It was a day when the sacred flame and national pride danced together, drawing in both tradition and togetherness.

Hyderabad Parsis Celebrate Navroz With Tradition and Togetherness: For Parsis of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, 15^th August, 2025 brought double the joy this year, as Navroz, the Parsi New Year, coincided with India’s Independence Day. The day began with a flag hoisting at the Zoroastrian Club, followed by a thanksgiving Jashan at the Khan Bahadur Edulji Sohrabji Chenai Anjuman Fire Temple, where exquisite floral arrangements won admiration.

At the historic Seth Viccaji Seth Pestonji Meharji Fire Temple, built in 1847, devotees offered flowers and participated in age-old rituals. Evening celebrations at the Zoroastrian Club, founded in 1931, brought families together for cultural programmes, housie and prize distributions. Scholarships were awarded, underscoring the community’s focus on education. The festivities ended with a lavish dinner featuring Parsi favourites, regional delicacies, and the traditional dessert – lagan nu custard.

In fact, Hyderabad turned up the thrill even higher on 15^th August with the ever-spirited owner of Chermas, Capt. K F Pestonji, rolling out his dazzling fleet of vintage cars for the city to admire! A beloved Independence Day tradition in Abids, the display had heads turning with gleaming classics including Benz and Rolls Royce. A national car racer with a passion dated back to 1931, Capt. Pestonji has spent decades curating this priceless collection – and every year, it continues to be a showstopper for Hyderabadis!

In Sydney, the ‘Dagli Boys’ had the crowd on their feet, turning Navroz into a high-voltage musical party. Decked out in crisp traditional white Daglis, this brass-and-woodwinds ensemble – complete with trumpets, flutes, saxophones and violins – laid down a jubilant soundtrack that had every Parsi, from toddlers to grandparents tapping their feet and breaking into impromptu dance moves! Their performance was a glorious fusion of heritage and groove, bringing a slice of Parsi tradition to Australia’s shores!

Bollywood superstar Boman Irani painted Navroz with familial warmth and playful affection. A charming family photoshoot with his sons underlined the role of bhonu (food) and togetherness in every Parsi home.

Navroz in Nagpur: Small Community, Big Spirit! Though numbering barely 300 – 350, Nagpur’s Parsis welcomed Navroz with a spirit that outshone their modest size. Families gathered for prayers at fire temples and the day was marked by warmth of greetings, laughter and sumptuous bhonu, as community members donned fresh attire to embrace new beginnings. Cultural activities and traditional rituals added colour to the occasion. Nagpur’s Parsis reaffirmed their enduring traditions and vibrant faith with a heartfelt Navroz celebration – a reminder that even in smaller numbers, the flame of Parsipanu blazes brightly!

As the world’s Parsi community stepped into a new year with renewed hope, Navroz once again stood as a reminder of resilience and togetherness. Wherever Parsis may be, the light of tradition continues to shine, bringing warmth and strength to our collective journey.
