Community luminaries and members came in large numbers to salute the memory of community stalwart, Late Jimi Faramji Jesia, at Dadar Parsee Colony’s Sorab Palamkote Hall, on 27th July, 2025. Heartfelt tributes were dedicated to Late Jimi Jesia – the founder of DPYA High School and Mancherji Edalji Joshi Memorial Trust – a man whose legacy has left an indelible mark on the history of the colony and the Parsi community.
Organised by the MEJMT in conjunction with DPYA, the ceremony was conducted by MEJMT Trustee, Behram Rabadi, and commenced with a tribute by Vada Dasturji Khurshed Dastoor, who fondly recalled Mr. Jesia as a spirited personality – full of humour and mischief, yet always driven by a deep commitment to the betterment of the community.
Dinyar Panthaky, MJEMT Chairman reminisced his 50-year friendship. “He always said, ‘Do good, and good will happen’,” he recalled. From securing the colony’s covenant status to launching education and medical aid, Jesia’s legacy continues to shape every corner of DPC. Dinshaw Tamboly, Chairman – WZO Trust Funds, accentuated Mr. Jesia’s affability, highlighting his presence in their humanitarian missions in Sanjan and Navsari, saying, “His was truly a life well-lived – worthy of emulation.”
Er. Dr. Ramiyar Karanjia, Principal – Dadar Athornan Institute, and Rukhsana Parelwalla – Principal – DPYA High School, emphasised Jesia’s dedication to youth education, religious instruction and community upliftment.
While Er. Dr. Karanjia admired his sincerity in being “transparent and equal with everyone,” Parelwalla praised him as a man who led “not only with authority, but empathy; not just with intelligence, but with a heart of gold.”
The event also featured a moving audio-visual tribute and deeply personal reflections from close friends and family members. Dr. Beheram Bunshah, the Jesia family’s physician and longtime friend, fondly recalled his “charm, wit, simplicity and honesty”, while family members including nephew Sarosh Dabhoiwalla, daughter – Nina Dumasia and Mithoo Jimi Jesia – his wife of 62 years, offered tender glimpses into the man behind the public persona. “Family and community meant everything to him, his legacy continues amongst us all,” said Nina.
And a fabulous legacy indeed did he leave behind! He will be fondly remembered by all for his dedication to education, community, integrity and service. The evening was, as one speaker pointed out, “not the mourning of a death, but a celebration of a life man who lived life guided by the ethos of Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds.”
