WZO Trust Funds: Lighting Lives, Uplifting the Community

For over four decades, the World Zoroastrian Organisation Trust Funds have stood as a beacon of hope for the Parsi Irani Zoroastrian community in India. Founded in 1995, this philanthropic institution has championed the cause of the underprivileged and the distressed, extending support across all aspects of life – rural and urban. Their core mission reflects a single powerful belief: Every Zoroastrian life matters.

At the helm of this noble endeavour stands Mr. Dinshaw Tamboly, a man of immense integrity, vision and resolve. As Chairman, his unwavering commitment, grassroots empathy and farsighted leadership have made WZO Trust Funds synonymous with purposeful action and heartfelt service. Deeply respected within the community, Mr. Tamboly’s tireless dedication has touched thousands of lives and set an inspiring benchmark for what organised philanthropy can achieve.

Guided by the principles of dignity, empowerment and transparency, WZO Trust Funds functions under the stewardship of nine committed trustees: Dinshaw K. Tamboly, Farrokh M. Kasad, Bachi D. Tamboly, Farzana M. Mojgani, Homiyar F. K. Madan, Freyaz K. Shroff, Aspi B. Ambardiwala, Cyrus D. Vandriwala and Rohinton J. Contractor. Together, they ensure that resources reach where they are needed most, always with compassion and accountability.

The WZO Trust Funds has consistently demonstrated deep commitment to the well-being of the Parsi/ Irani Zoroastrian community through a wide range of impactful initiatives that address both urgent needs and long-term development. Here’s a look at the Trusts’ dynamic range of initiatives, each transforming lives in meaningful ways:

Farmers Rehabilitation Project: WZO Trusts have successfully uplifted over 570 Zoroastrian farmers and their families in Gujarat by helping them reclaim ownership of farmlands and ensuring sustainable livelihoods. This has been a cornerstone project in reviving rural prosperity.

Rural Housing Project: With over 550 houses constructed or repaired, this initiative ensures that deserving rural Zoroastrians live in safe, dignified homes, away from the despair of dilapidated conditions.

Self-Employment Project: More than 1,000 Zoroastrians have benefited from this initiative, which provides interest-free financial support to start or grow micro-businesses. It has empowered families to become self-reliant and economically secure.

Educational Support & Youth Activities: WZO Trusts continue to provide scholarships, educational loans and sponsorships to students across academic levels, nurturing the community’s youth and promoting future-ready citizens.

Medical Support: Be it surgical procedures, therapies, or ongoing treatment, WZO Trusts extend timely and substantial aid to ailing Zoroastrians who cannot afford medical care, enabling them to heal with dignity.

Assistance to the Economically Challenged: Regular monetary aid is provided to families in financial distress. This ongoing support helps them meet basic needs while restoring hope and stability.

Food Grain Distribution: Hundreds of families receive monthly food grains, ensuring nutritional security and relieving the stress of daily sustenance.

Support to Mobeds: WZO Trusts recognise the indispensable role of Mobeds in preserving our faith and offer regular financial and housing assistance to deserving Mobed and their families across India.

Senior Citizen Centres at Navsari: With a warm, community-focused environment, these centres offer elderly residents comfortable living, companionship and essential medical care.

Sanjan Sanatorium: This heritage destination continues to offer an affordable spiritual retreat for community members seeking health, rest and rejuvenation.

Economy Housing at Navsari: Offering safe and affordable homes for over 250 families, this housing project embodies WZO Trusts’ vision of sustainable living rooted in community pride.

WZO Trusts: Compassion in Action
The WZO Trusts continue to evolve with the times, launching vocational centres, healthcare pilots and expanding into youth engagement and mental health support – areas often overlooked in traditional aid. Their swift pandemic response, providing rations and medical kits across urban and rural areas, proved life-saving for many Zoroastrians. Equally commendable is their support for children with special needs, offering assistance for education, therapy and mobility aids. With compassion at the core, WZO Trusts ensure that no one is left behind – demonstrating resilience, responsiveness and a deep commitment to uplifting the Parsi/Irani Zoroastrian community at every stage.

Structured and Transparent Selection Process: All aid decisions are made following rigorous due diligence. Applicants must submit detailed forms and supporting documents. Site visits are conducted by field officers or local representatives. The Board of Trustees then collectively reviews every application before funds are disbursed. This meticulous, fair and case-sensitive approach ensures that assistance is both deserved and delivered.

A Legacy Rooted in Service

More than philanthropy, WZO Trust Funds are about community upliftment, proving that real change happens when empathy is backed by structured support, and when dignity is restored through action. From a village farmer regaining a roof over his head, to a bright student receiving admission to a dream university, the stories of transformation are countless, and all made possible by the collective strength of a committed team, generous donors, and a guiding light named Dinshaw Tamboly. As the Trusts step into their fifth decade, their mission remains clear: to reach every Zoroastrian in need, with a helping hand and a promise of hope.

In a world of rising hardship and shrinking safety nets, WZO Trust Funds stand tall as champions of care, compassion and community resilience. They do not simply serve, they empower. And in doing so, they carry forward the highest ideals of our faith, our community and our humanity.
