The badminton courts at Cusrow Baug came alive with cheers and competitive spirit for CBUSWL’s 16th Annual Badminton Tournament, held from 18th August to 6th September, 2025, which culminated in a spirited prize distribution ceremony. This year’s edition saw 60 players compete across 14 categories, with ages ranging from 8 to 60.
The seats were packed with enthusiastic families and friends cheering and livening up the atmosphere. Adding star power to the Prize distribution was Chief Guest Jehan Daruvala, India’s celebrated motorsport racer, who shared a few words of encouragement for the budding athletes and drew warm applause for his achievements on the international racing circuit. Winners across 14 categories were felicitated: Top Individual Honours included 8-year-old Rehaan Palia winning ‘Youngest Player of the Tournament’ and ‘Upcoming Player of the Tournament’; Arshaan Wadia winning ‘Promising Player of the Tournament’; Firdaus Shroff presented the ‘Fair Play Award’; Jehan Hansotia winning ‘Best Player of the Tournament – Juniors’; and Aarzish Mugaseth winning ‘Best Player of the Tournament’. Other winners across various categories included Narios Poonawala, Kaizeen Katrak, Meherzad Bulsara, Cyrus Vajifdar, Daunish Yazdegardi, Vivyaan Wadia, Piroze Katrak, Farhad Palia, Benaifer Katrak, Minaish Rustomji, Zubin & Mikhail Jaorewalla (Family Doubles); Khoremand Irani (Veteran Singles); and Rustom Mody & Farhad Palia (Veteran Doubles).
The event honored principal sponsors – Farida and Hoshang Jal, who have supported the tournament for nine years, in memory of late Mrs. Amy Jal, a devoted badminton player who had dreamt of seeing Cusrow Baug’s youth excel in the sport. Special recognition was credited to organisers Zubin Jaorewalla, Rustom Irani, Vispi Shroff, Zubin Wadia and Yazed Wadia for ensuring the tournament’s smooth success. The announcement of CBUSWL’s Table Tennis Tournament, beginning 2nd October, 2025, added to the excitement. The evening closed with a jubilant group photo, hearty cheers for Cusrow Baug, and a celebratory dinner, reflecting the community’s enduring spirit and its commitment to sport and camaraderie.
