Globally eminent ophthalmologist and a pioneer in advanced eye care, Dr. Cyres Mehta was invited to speak at the prestigious 43^rd Annual Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS), held in Copenhagen, Denmark, from 12^th – 16^th September, 2025. Recognized globally for his groundbreaking work in cataract and glaucoma surgery, Dr. Mehta was the only eye surgeon from Mumbai invited to speak at the event.

The ESCRS Congress is the world’s largest gathering of cataract and laser vision correction specialists. This year’s edition drew over 16,000 ophthalmologists from 50 countries. Dr. Cyres Mehta delivered a two-hour instructional course on complicated cataract surgeries, collaborating with leading surgeons from Israel, Canada and Italy. His session drew such overwhelming interest that the hall was filled to capacity, with participants waiting outside in line for a chance to enter.

With over 35,000 surgeries performed across a 25-year career, Dr. Mehta has consistently combined innovation with expertise. At his state-of-the-art International Eye Centre in Colaba, South Mumbai, he has introduced several path-breaking technologies to India. In 2015, he brought the state its first Femto Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS) using the CATALYS system, transforming precision and safety in cataract care. His centre continues to attract patients from more than 20 countries, offering advanced procedures such as Trifocal and Extended Depth of Focus Lens Implantation, Canaloplasty for glaucoma, and SMILE Robotic Refractive Surgery. His pioneering work with NanoSLT has also opened new frontiers in glaucoma management.

Over the years, Dr. Mehta has received over 60 national and international honours, repeatedly being named ‘India’s Leading Eye Surgeon’.
