Dear Readers,
One of our community’s greatest strengths has been our ability to evolve without losing our essence. Across centuries and continents, we have thrived by adapting to changing times, while staying rooted in faith and tradition. Today, we stand at another crossroads… it’s time to embrace thoughtful change yet again, one that ensures our collective welfare and safeguards what truly matters.
The recent decision by WZO Trusts to sell the Sanjan Sanatorium is a timely example. For decades, the Sanatorium served as a cherished retreat, but dwindling numbers and escalating costs rendered it unsustainable. With its upkeep far outweighing its utility, the Sanatorium became a drain on resources. Redirecting those funds towards other crucial community causes – like poverty relief, healthcare, education, etc., is a reaffirmation of priorities which align with the community’s larger interests.
The same compassionate pragmatism must extend to our sacred spaces. Many Agiaries today unfortunately witness little or no congregation, often without sufficient priests to perform the rituals that keep the holy fire venerated, as it deserves. Allowing sacred flames to flicker untended is not devotion. Moving these fires, in full accordance with religious texts, to thriving Agiaries, where they can be honoured with due rituals and daily prayers, is the need of the hour. It also facilitates easier access to the growing number of Parsis living in the suburbs, thus strengthening our collective faith.
True respect for our heritage lies in nurturing it where it can flourish. By embracing necessary change with open hearts, we honour our past, uplift our present and pave the way for a vibrant future. It is only when we unite with wisdom, compassion and courage, that we can build a stronger tomorrow for our community, rooted in dignity, pride and purpose.
Have a lovely weekend!
