Fraternity: The Strength Of Our Country And Community

Inspired by a recent address by former Supreme Court judge, Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman, we are reminded of the profound value of fraternity in shaping both, our nation and our community. Justice Nariman reminded us that India’s path to lasting peace and harmony is built on respect and understanding across faiths. His words carry profound resonance for our community which is rich in heritage, yet fragile in number. For a community as minuscule as ours, the practice of fraternity is not optional, it is essential.

Fraternity asks us to look beyond differences in outlook, practice or even ideology, and to embrace each other with dignity and respect. Just as fraternity at the national level assures the dignity of every individual as also unity and integrity of the nation, so too does fraternity within our community assure the dignity of each Parsi voice and the unity and continuity of our collective identity.

We may not always agree. Disagreements over traditions, reforms or policies are natural. But when we anchor our conversations in fraternity, even differing opinions become opportunities for growth, not division. By listening with openness, respecting differences, and seeking common ground, we transform differences into strength and secure bonds that endure.

Our forebears preserved our community through resilience, compassion and unity. Today, it falls upon us to honour that legacy – not by dwelling on what divides us, but by reinforcing what binds us. Fraternity is the bridge that connects individual dignity with collective strength, ensuring our small community remains strong and vibrant. Moving forward, let us carry gratitude for our shared heritage and embrace hope for a future shaped by solidarity. May we remain bound not only by faith and tradition, but also by a conscious commitment and the shared responsibility to uphold unity, dignity and pride in being Parsi!

Have a good weekend!
