The Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy Agiary, one of Hyderabad’s oldest and most treasured heritage structures, recently marked a historic milestone as it celebrated its 121st Salgreh, on 16th September, 2025 (Roj Ardibehest, Mah Ardibehest, 1395 YZ). The day began with a solemn Jashan ceremony at the Agiary, with prayers offered for the continued prosperity of the community, led by Er. Burzin Dastoor and Er. Yazad Lashkari. This culminated into a warm gathering of devotees, where light refreshments were served, bringing together community members in joyous fellowship.
Built in 1904 (Roj Ardibehest, Mah Ardibehest, 1274 YZ), the Agiary holds immense historical significance. Its foundation stone was laid by Bai Putlibai Maneckshaw Chenoy, in memory of Bai Maneckbai Nusserwanji Chenoy and Maneckshaw Sorabji Chenoy. In recognition of its architectural and cultural value, the Agiary was conferred the HUDA Heritage Building award in 2001.
Unlike traditional fire temples, Chenoy Agiary stands out for its distinctive Greek-inspired architectural style. Its gothic features, imposing facade with a deep recessed verandah, elegant wide stairs and the Afarganyu that crowns the entrance – all put together create an aura of timeless grace. Recently restored through extensive repairs and renovations, the Agiary continues to shine as a symbol of devotion and enduring legacy of the deep roots of Zoroastrian heritage in Hyderabad.
