Dadyseth Atash Behram Celebrates Glorious 242nd Salgreh

Mumbai’s oldest Atash Behram, the Seth Dadibhai Nosherwanji / Nusserwanji Dadyseth Atash Behram, whose Atash Padshah was consecrated on 29th September, 1783 (Shahenshahi Roj Govad, Mah Asfandarmard 1153 AY; Kadmi Roj Sarosh, Mah Farvardin 1153 AY.), marked a significant milestone as it commemorated its 242nd Salgreh, on 29th September 2025.

A Jashan ceremony was held in the evening performed led by Er. Darayus Nalladaru alongside 8 Mobeds – Ervads: Jimmy F Panthaky (Boiwala Dadiseth Atashbehram), Pourush Behramkamdin,  Khurshed Behramkamdin, Jamshed Behramkamdin, Jahanbaux Chithiwala (Boiwala Banaji Atashbehram), Aaresh Nalladaru, Mehernosh Behramkamdin and Kobad Bharda (Boiwala Iranshah Atashbehram, Udwada). The beautifully adorned hall, filled with the sweet fragrance of fresh tuberose and rose torans, was packed to capacity. The Jashan concluded with a hambandagi chanted collectively and distribution of chasni, followed by light refreshments for all devotees.

The Jashan was followed by a traditional vegetarian Ghambar, catered by Mek Caterers (Khanpur Ahmedabad) and Parsiana Kitchen (Perth, Australia), which witnessed a large turnout of community members. Entertaining those waiting to enjoy the Ghambar, Mr. Viraf Daruwala and his team sang popular Bollywood songs, making the occasion more memorable.

This historic Atashbehram celebrates the Salgreh of its consecration twice a year – on its Roj day as well as per the corresponding Gregorian calendar date. In 1783, the ceremony was led by Dasturji Mulla Kaus Bin Rustam Jalal, the first Kadmi Vada Dastur and 24th descendant of Mobed Shapur Sheriar, ancestor of all mobeds in India. Built by Seth Dadibhai Noshirwanji / Nusserwanji Dadiseth (1734–99) on 1.3 acres, it remained Bombay’s sole Atashbehram for nearly 50 years, serving both Shahenshahi and Kadmi Zoroastrians.
