Dr. Cyres K. Mehta, India’s leading ophthalmologist and Director of the state-of-the-art International Eye Centre in Colaba, Mumbai, has been honoured with the prestigious Subodh Agarwal Memorial Gold Medal by the Intraocular Implant and Refractive Society of India (IIRSI). The award was presented at the Society’s annual conference held in Delhi, from 22^nd – 24^th November, 2025, by Major General JKS Parihar, President – IIRSI, and Padmashri Dr. Mahipal Sachdev – Chairman, IIRSI.

This honour recognises Dr. Mehta’s pioneering contributions to refractive surgery, advanced intraocular lens implantation and path-breaking innovations in cataract care. With an illustrious career spanning 25 years and over 35,000 successful surgeries, he has played a pivotal role in shaping modern ophthalmology and elevating India on the global map.

Dr.  Mehta introduced several firsts in India, including the Femto  Laser-Assisted  Cataract Surgery  (FLACS)  using  the  CATALYS  system  (2015), revolutionising precision and safety in cataract procedures. His centre attracts patients from more than 20 countries, offering cutting-edge treatments such as Trifocal and EDOF Lens Implantation, SMILE Robotic Refractive Surgery, Canaloplasty for glaucoma and the pioneering NanoSLT technique. His commitment to education and surgical training continues to inspire ophthalmologists across India and overseas.
