Dr. Rashna Writer, scholar and author of ‘The Story of the Zoroastrians: An Historical Perspective’, has made her acclaimed work freely accessible as an audiobook and a printable PDF on her website: www.rashnawriter.com.
In her preface, Dr. Rashna Writer shares how her childhood curiosity about her small Parsi community in Calcutta shaped her journey from India to the London School of Economics, where she earned her doctorate, and thereon, to SOAS, University of London, where she lectured on Zoroastrianism.
During the Covid-19 lockdown, Dr. Writer recorded ‘The Story of the Zoroastrians’ as an audiobook, offering a vivid and deeply researched account of the community’s journey from ancient Iran to the modern diaspora. Responding to readers’ requests, she has now made the book available in PDF format for easy access and reference.
Offering this “gift of remembrance”, Dr. Rashna’s purpose, as she explains, is to revive historical memory and deepen understanding of Zoroastrian identity through time. Tracing a path from empires and migrations to modern contributions across India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the work brings history to life with clarity and insights.
The book closes on a poignant note that continues to resonate across generations: “The world may have lost sight of them, but Zoroastrians remain a small but vibrant community – changed, yet in many ways, unchanging.”
