Shooting Stars Father-Son Duo – Dr. Cyres And Zane Mehta Hit Bullseye!

India’s celebrated ophthalmologist and ace shooter, Dr. Cyres Mehta, added yet another feather to his illustrious cap by winning the bronze medal in the ‘Standard Pistol’ category, at the recently concluded All India G V Mavlankar Shooting Championship – 34th edition (Pistol events), held in Ahmedabad from 31st October to 13th November, 2025. Representing Maharashtra, this marks Dr. Mehta’s third national-level medal in shooting, reaffirming his remarkable versatility and precision – both in the operation theatre and on the firing range.

Dr. Mehta, mentored by Arjuna Awardee and President of the Maharashtra Rifle Association, Shri Ashok Pandit, continues to excel under expert guidance, blending professional excellence with sporting passion. His victory comes shortly after his gold-winning performance at the All-India Open Shooting Championships in Goa earlier this year, where he dominated the Men’s Masters .32 Centre Fire category with a stellar 270/300 score.

Following in the footsteps of his father’s prowess, 13-year-old Zane Mehta impressed at the same championship, scoring an impressive 258/300 in the ‘Sports Pistol’ event. His performance earned him the title of ‘Aspiring Shooter of India’ and a qualification to represent Maharashtra at the upcoming Nationals in New Delhi, this December. One of the country’s youngest firearm shooters, Zane trains at the Ronak Pandit Shooting Centre, under renowned coach Ronak Pandit, an Asian and Commonwealth Games gold medallist and current Indian Olympic team coach.

A man of multifaceted brilliance, Dr. Cyres Mehta exemplifies excellence that extends far beyond his profession. A globally acclaimed ophthalmologist, author, pianist and motorbike enthusiast, his relentless pursuit of perfection has transformed eye-care in India. Over 25 years and 35,000 surgeries, Dr. Mehta has pioneered advanced ophthalmic technologies including introducing India’s first Femto Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery (FLACS); his innovations in Trifocal Lens Implantation, SMILE Robotic Refractive Surgery, Canaloplasty and NanoSLT for glaucoma – which have elevated Indian ophthalmology to global repute. Honoured with more than 60 national and international awards, including the International Hero of Indian Ophthalmology and British Ophthalmic Excellence Award, Dr. Cyres Mehta’s contributions continue to inspire pride within the nation and the Parsi community, illuminating a vision of excellence that sees beyond sight itself.
